Shut down U.S. military bases

Don't get me wrong: I love America, and have a great deal of respect for the U.S. armed forces. The problem, of course, is that those who are leading America and its armed forces are no good. It strikes me as somewhat of a problem that these leaders feel that it's their sacred right and duty to put U.S. military bases around the world, especially in such places as south Korea (there's no grammatical error there, by the way) and Japan.

There's no threat to regional stability, and no one has asked for the U.S. forces to be there. Unfortunately, because of various agreements that were signed years ago, there are bases in those countries, as well as elsewhere, much to the detriment of the people in those areas.

A recent article to illustrate my point about rape in Japan.

Cf: Bananas, Bases, and Beaches by Cynthia Enloe.

You make a good point, and clearly those resources would be better used elsewhere. Although, a counterargument might be presented; if the U.S. closes down its military bases, then a lot of local economies around would go to shit.
